Job Summary: A Full-time Research Assistant position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Jin O-Uchi at the Cardiovascular Research Center, Rhode Island Hospital and the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University, Providence, RI. Our research is to investigate the role Ca2+ ion in the normal and disease heart functions using isolated cardiac mitochondria, single live cultured or primary cells, tissues, and in vivo animal models.
1. Manage lab safety, place supply orders, and participate in overall lab maintenance.
2. Assist the research using animal models of cardiovascular disease (e.g. small animal surgery, tissue harvest and record keeping). Properly handle and maintain animal colony.
3. Under general supervision, perform variety of techniques including mitochondria isolation and assays, primary cell culture, PCR, the isolation of DNA, RNA, and protein from cell/tissue samples
Educational/Training Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in appropriate field with a minimum of three years related experience OR a Master’s degree with a minimum of one year related experience.
Competencies: It is preferred that the applicants have good knowledge of cardiac anatomy and function, skills in handling and maintaining animal colonies and skills in common laboratory techniques in molecular genetics and biology. The candidate must be willing to work with laboratory animals including mice and rats. Experience with Cardiac ultrasound and primary cell isolation is advantageous.
